DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - Jury selection is expected to continue in the retrial of DeKalb County’s suspended CEO who’s accused of pressuring vendors for campaign contributions.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (https://bit.ly/1MiQxL8 ) 34 potential jurors had been qualified to hear the trial of Burrell Ellis by Tuesday afternoon. The newspaper reports 42 jurors are required before the panel can be whittled down to 12 and an alternate.

DeKalb County Judge Courtney Johnson said she expected to have a full panel by Wednesday.

Ellis was charged with bribery, theft, extortion and perjury. Court records show that two counts of theft and two counts of coercion have been dropped.

Ellis’s first case ended in a mistrial. Ellis has maintained his innocence during the trial, saying he made phone calls but didn’t threaten anyone.
