TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Tampa treasure hunter Odyssey Marine Exploration Inc. says it’s exploring five 20th century shipwrecks in the North Atlantic that may have “significant” cargoes of gold and silver.

The Tampa Bay Times (https://goo.gl/vkbd5F) reports that Odyssey made the announcement Tuesday. The company’s marine operations team is gathering data on each wreck using such techniques as multi-beam surveys, sub-bottom imaging and visual inspections with a remotely operated vehicle. The project, dubbed “Olympus,” is operating out of the home port of Cork in Ireland.

Odyssey’s stock, battered in recent months by bad publicity and short-seller pressure, rose more than 14 percent in early afternoon trading to 53 cents per share.
