WARREN, Pa. (AP) - The (Warren) Times Observer has promoted sports editor Jon Sitler to managing editor.

The northwestern Pennsylvania newspaper announced the promotion Tuesday (https://bit.ly/1ePvpRE ).

Sitler was hired as a part-time sports writer in 1996, then worked as a news reporter before being named sports editor in 2003.

Publisher Robert Patchen says Sitler improved the newspaper’s sports coverage and looks forward to having Sitler “take our already solid news coverage and evolving it into something special.”

Sitler, a married father of two, earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Clarion University. He has won at least one Pennsylvania Associated Press Managing Editors Award or Keystone Press Award every year since 2008.
