EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - A spokesman for software security firm Symantec says it is cutting 175 customer support jobs at its facility in Springfield, Oregon.

Spokesman Noah Edwardsen told The Register-Guard (https://is.gd/pgtkSy ) by email that workers were notified Tuesday. The reduction won’t take effect until September.

Earlier this year, Symantec officials said the Springfield site had 1,200 full-time employees and 300 part-time employees. The spokesman declined to discuss current employment levels.

The cuts in Springfield reportedly are part of a major restructuring that the Mountain View, California-based company announced last fall.

Edwardsen says affected employees are eligible for severance.
