BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A 56-year-old woman is being held on charges she tried to pay someone $20,000 to kill her ex-husband, his wife and their daughter.

Debra Arno is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in federal court in Buffalo on Wednesday.

The U.S. attorney’s office says the North Carolina resident was charged after police in the Buffalo suburb of Kenmore were tipped to a murder-for-hire plan last week.

Authorities say police searched the home of the person allegedly hired to carry out the killings and found photos of the would-be victims, a diagram of their home and three shotguns. That person is facing state charges.

Arno, who used to live in western New York, appeared briefly in federal court Tuesday. She was ordered held until Wednesday’s hearing. It’s unknown if she has a lawyer.
