GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - A woman who led authorities on a chase in northern Colorado is dead, apparently after killing herself.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office says the woman is likely the person of interest they have been trying to talk to in connection with the slaying of her ex-husband, Lawrence Marez, Monday.

The chase started when police attempted to contact Barbara Blanton-Marez in Greeley on Wednesday and a woman fled in a truck that Blanton-Marez is believed to have been driving.

The chase ended near Brighton when the woman crashed. Greeley police chief Jerry Garner told the Greeley Tribune (https://bit.ly/1ePZwbw) that she apparently shot herself as officers surrounded the truck.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office says Blanton-Marez walked away from a halfway house on Friday while serving a three-year sentence for felony menacing.
