MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say 21 boaters suspected of operating vessels under the influence were arrested over Memorial Day weekend.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency spokesman Steve Jarrett says authorities also investigated six boat crashes and offered assistance to five vessel operators between May 22 and 25.

Director of the Alabama Department of Public Safety Col. John E Richardson said in a statement that boaters of all ages should remember to wear life jackets.

Jarrett says troopers covered the Gulf of Mexico and state rivers and lakes during the holiday weekend.
