NEW YORK (AP) - Three arrests at New York’s main bus terminal fall under city Police Commissioner William Bratton’s policy of targeting quality-of-life offenses. He says such relatively minor crimes often hide bigger ones.

The three women were arrested Wednesday in front of Manhattan’s busiest bus hub.

Port Authority police say one had a crack cocaine pipe, another synthetic marijuana, and the third an open vodka bottle. One woman had 65 prior arrests including 10 on felony charges; she served time behind bars for selling drugs. Another had been arrested 32 previous times and also served time.

Police say one woman struggled with the arresting officer, digging her nails into his arm and gouging his wrist.

The three were awaiting arraignment on charges including assault, resisting arrest and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
