ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A third man is heading to prison for his role in the kidnapping of a western New York couple as part of a plan to rob the jewelry store where the couple worked.

Authorities say 24-year-old Alexander Kates was sentenced to 16 years in prison. A judge sentenced 29-year-old Thomas Pryor and 28-year-old Qzay Clark last month.

Prosecutors say the men bound the couple and their adult son with duct tape and held the family hostage for a night last August in their apartment in the town of Greece, a Rochester suburb.

The next day, Pryor and Alexander Kates took the father’s car and used the couple’s keys and passcode to rob the jewelry store at a Greece shopping mall while Clark stayed with the family to watch them.
