CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Prison officials say a 54-year-old inmate jailed for less than a month on a drug conviction has died.

The Nevada Department of Corrections said Martin Jones died Wednesday at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center’s medical facility in Carson City.

The agency says Jones went to prison May 8 and was serving a sentence of up to two years for possession of a controlled substance. Officials say he had been hospitalized at Carson Tahoe Hospital shortly after arriving in prison but didn’t say what the hospitalization was for.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office coroner is expected to conduct an autopsy.
