BYRAM, N.J. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after police fatally shot a man in northern New Jersey.

It happened Wednesday afternoon in Byram. Sussex County First Assistant Prosecutor Greg Mueller says Ronald Neal was shot and killed after police responded to a report of a barricaded person in a house.

Byram Police Chief Raymond Rafferty tells the New Jersey Herald that Neal was armed and didn’t live alone.

Investigators didn’t disclose details of what led up to the shooting.

The Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office and state police are investigating the shooting.
