ATLANTA (AP) - Two construction workers who were trapped in an Atlanta manhole have been lifted out of the underground space.

Atlanta Fire Department spokeswoman Janet Ward says two construction workers were trapped in a roughly 14-foot deep manhole on the Georgia Tech Practice Range Thursday afternoon.

Footage from local news broadcasts showed emergency responders clustered on the course with stretchers and an ambulance nearby. Details on how the workers became trapped in the space and the extent of their injuries weren’t immediately available.

Atlanta Fire Department spokesman Janet Ward says the men were conscious and breathing when they were removed from the manhole. Ward says the space the workers were trapped in appeared to be a sewer line.
