CORINTH, Miss. (AP) - A veteran Corinth police officer handed in his resignation after being arrested over the weekend and charged with domestic violence.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1KG736C) Lt. Jerry Mayhall, a 15-year police veteran, was arrested Friday night after an altercation with his girlfriend, who was not injured.

The 54-year-old Mayhall was released the next day, May 27, after posting a $1,000 bond.

At their regular meeting Tuesday night, the Corinth Board of Aldermen accepted the letter of resignation in executive session.

Online jail records did not list an attorney for Mayhall.
