DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The newly renovated Cowles Commons in Des Moines is almost set to open to the public.

Des Moines media outlets report the space, formerly the Nollen Plaza, is scheduled to open around June 18.

Des Moines Performing Arts president and CEO Jeff Chelesvig says the $12 million project is the largest endeavor the organization has led since opening in 1979.

Cowles Commons will feature a 28-foot-tall sculpture, which will be installed this fall.

The nonprofit group manages the space as well as the Des Moines Civic Center across the street.
