BOONEVILLE, Miss. (AP) - A former deputy tax collector has started serving a six-year prison sentence after she pleaded guilty to breaking into the Prentiss County tax assessor’s office in January 2014.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports Thursday that (https://bit.ly/1HNDJrU ) that 51-year-old Donna Lynn Way, of Baldwyn, was sentenced May 22 after she pleaded guilty to the burglary of a building.

Court records show she went reported to the Prentiss County Detention Center on May 29.

The newspaper reports that Way is expected to testify against three others charged in the case.

Investigators say the four people broke into the courthouse and stole nearly $36,000 in cash and checks.

Way was order to pay restitution to the county’s insurer for the nearly $16,000 is cash that was never recovered.
