YORK, Maine (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of a fisherman aboard a recreational fishing vessel in Maine.

An initial Coast Guard investigation found that two people were using the vessel to fish approximately 13 miles off York Harbor on Wednesday night when they had engine problems and dropped anchor. The Maine Marine Patrol says one of the fishermen fell asleep and woke the next morning to find the other dead near the open engine compartment. He then radioed the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard towed the vessel into York Harbor at about 5:15 a.m. on Thursday. The marine patrol says the two fishermen are from Vermont. The patrol is not yet releasing their identities. The patrol says it is investigating the cause of death and what caused the engine failure.
