AUBURN, Maine (AP) - A Maine man has been sentenced to a total of seven years in prison on child rape and unrelated manslaughter charges for killing another hunter.

Christopher Austin pleaded guilty to both the shooting death of 49-year-old Gerard Parent and unrelated charges of raping a child between 8 and 15 years old.

The 43-year-old Wales resident was also sentenced to nine years of probation and ordered to register as a sex offender.

Austin and Parent were hunting separately and shooting at the same deer in 2012 when authorities say Austin shot and killed Parent. He was also ordered to pay more than $5,000 restitution to Parent’s family.
