HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission wants to raise money for pollution control projects along the Susquehanna River.

The commission says it’ll start selling “Save Our Susquehanna” buttons for $10 on Monday.

The commission says illness and elevated mortality rates have plagued the Susquehanna’s smallmouth bass population over the past decade. Last month, biologists reported the first case of cancer in a smallmouth bass caught in the river.

Once the commission raises $50,000, it’ll kick in another $50,000 and start the process of determining which pollution control projects to fund. It also hopes to contribute more money later in the year.

The commission and the nonprofit Chesapeake Bay Commission want the federal government to require states to set limits on pollutants entering the river.
