TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - Police say a 12-year-old boy is recovering after being attacked by a pit bull.

Tupelo Police Chief Bart Aguirre tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (https://bit.ly/1KbFXGv) officers were dispatched to Augusta Street around 5 p.m. Tuesday and found the boy had been bitten on the left knee. When officers went to the house in question, he says there were two pit bulls. One was captured, the other escaped.

Aguirre says officials have confined the dog for 10 days to make sure it does not have rabies. Police are still looking for the other dog.

He says the boy was treated and released from the hospital.

Aguirre says the dog’s owner was issued a citation for not registering a dangerous dog.
