IRONWOOD, Mich. (AP) - Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from across Michigan are teaming up to tackle the state’s newest trail that runs from Detroit to the western Upper Peninsula.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says the Scouts are taking part in a dedication hike Saturday for the Iron Belle Trail. The Scouts, parents and volunteers are hiking different sections of the trail at the same time, averaging about 6 ½ miles.

The trail starts on Belle Isle in Detroit and ends in Ironwood. Roughly 100 Scouts and volunteers are signed up to start on Belle Isle, and more than 130 Scouting groups are slated to participate.
