CONNEAUTVILLE, Pa. (AP) - State police in northwestern Pennsylvania were searching for a man in connection with his ex-girlfriend’s stabbing death.

Witnesses told troopers that 52-year-old Steven Altman, of Springfield Township, and 53-year-old Debra Eschweiler were in different vehicles before Altman got out of his and broke her driver’s side window with a baseball bat about 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Sgt. Mark Zaleski says Altman then stabbed the woman and ran away. That happened in Conneautville (kaw-nee-AWT’-vil), about 100 miles north of Pittsburgh.

Online court records show Altman had not been criminally charged early Thursday. He was wearing a tan shirt, shorts and hat and has close-cropped gray hair.

Eschweiler was pronounced dead at the scene by the Crawford County coroner.

State troopers have also been using a helicopter to search for Altman.
