GROSSE POINTE FARMS, Mich. (AP) - A suburban Detroit seventh grader is being honored for his lifesaving efforts by AAA.

The auto club says Christopher Cleland is being recognized Thursday with the AAA School Safety Patrol Lifesaving Medal at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic School in Grosse Pointe Farms.

According to AAA, Christopher was stationed at a traffic light in front of the school in January when the crossing signal changed from “walk” to flashing. He stopped a group of students from crossing and, seconds later, a minor two-vehicle crash happened in the crosswalk.

Christopher is one of a few students from across the U.S. getting the medal, which is the highest award given to members of the AAA School Safety Patrol.
