NORTH HYDE PARK, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont National Guard is breaking ground on a new vehicle maintenance shop in North Hyde Park.

A ceremony to mark the beginning of construction will be held Thursday.

The guard says the facility will give the Vermont Army Guard a modern, state of the art field maintenance shop for vehicle repairs.

The first phase of the two-phase project will provide administrative space and drive-through maintenance bays. It is due to be completed by December. The second phase will add additional administrative, supply and personal space, as well as more maintenance bays.

The facility will use a geothermal ground source system to provide heating and cooling as well as solar panels, a state of the art energy management system and high efficiency motors, lighting and other systems.
