MADISON, Miss. (AP) - Republican Cory Wilson has won the Mississippi House District 73 post after his only opponent announced his withdrawal from the race.

House District 73 is comprised of areas of Madison County. It was shifted from Hinds to Madison County through redistricting.

The 44-year-old Wilson is an attorney and was former chief of staff for Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann from 2008-2011. He has been a senior adviser and counsel for the state treasurer since 2014.

Wilson says his focus as a state lawmaker will be “economic growth, strong education and quality of life.”

Republican John Reeves tells The Clarion-Ledger (https://on.thec-l.com/1czz9VC ) that the demands of a busy law practice and family prevent him from focusing on a legislative run this year. Reeves previously served 24 years in the House.
