MEDFORD, Mass. (AP) - Wynn Resorts is opening an office in Massachusetts to oversee the development of a planned $1.6 billion casino in Everett.

The gambling company announced Thursday that the 7,626-square-foot office in Medford about two miles from the site of the proposed casino could eventually house up to 50 employees involved in the development, construction and operation of the resort.

State gambling regulators have granted Wynn a license for the only casino in the greater Boston area. Wynn plans to build a casino with a 600-room hotel at a 33-acre former industrial site along the Mystic River.

The license has been challenged in court by the city of Boston.

Wynn says the casino will generate more than 4,000 construction jobs, more than 4,000 permanent jobs and approximately $260 in annual tax revenue.
