FRANKLIN, N.C. (AP) - Macon County Sheriff’s Office deputies have taken two armed suspects into custody after the pair was discovered on the campus of South Macon Elementary School in Franklin.

The Asheville Citizen-Times (https://avlne.ws/1Q9LAd2 ) reports one of the suspects pulled a gun on a deputy Thursday morning. The deputy shot the man and woman with a stun gun and subdued them.

A Facebook post on the Macon County Sheriff’s Office page says five loaded pistols were found, along with a dead cat believed to have been shot by the suspects.

Macon County Schools Superintendent Dr. Chris Baldwin says the school was closed temporarily, but reopened after officers searched the campus. One of the guns found was discovered inside a school bus.

The man and woman were being questioned but had not been charged.
