OLD FORT, N.C. (AP) - Six gold coins from the historic Bechtler Mint in Rutherford County and on loan from a state museum will be exhibited during the N.C. Gold Festival.

The festival will be held Friday and Saturday, and the coins will be on display Saturday only at the Mountain Gateway Museum and Heritage Center in Old Fort.

The coins are on loan from the N.C. Museum of History and include the $1, quarter eagle ($2.50) and half eagle ($5). The coins were minted between 1831 and 1842.

The festival will celebrate the state’s rich gold-mining history and feature gold mining equipment, mining demonstrations, gold panning, gem stone screenings and gold experts.
