SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Police in western Massachusetts say a robbery suspect being chased by police slowed down and pushed his 8-year-old daughter out of the car before being caught during a foot pursuit.

Springfield police say the girl was not seriously hurt during the events Friday afternoon.

Authorities say the car chase began when city detectives spotted a man wanted for several pharmacy robberies and approached him. The man then led police on a chase from Springfield into Chicopee and back into Springfield, where he slowed down and pushed the girl out of the car.

Police say they caught the man after he struck another car and fled on foot. His name hasn’t been released.

Officials say the girl was taken to a hospital as a precaution and is expected to be OK.
