DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - Dubuque’s Hempstead High School is nearing completion of its $30 million renovation and addition project.

The Telegraph Herald (https://bit.ly/1IoEAVD ) reports the project, which was funded by a 1 percent sales tax, began in May 2013. Construction workers will use the summer break to complete work that includes new science classrooms, a business office and improvements on the gymnasium. The project will add 141,209 square feet to the existing building.

Construction is expected to be completed ahead of its January 2016 deadline.

District buildings and grounds official Bill Burkhart says Dubuque Senior High School is next in line for renovations.
