SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Caddo Sheriff’s Deputies have rescued a horse that retreated to higher ground and was trapped by rising water in Shreveport.

KTBS-TV (https://bit.ly/1H7w3Vp ) reports the owners of the horse, whose name is Brownie, tried to catch her and move her to safety Thursday afternoon but she was too scared to swim in the chest-deep water.

Deputies and the property owner’s employees ventured out to the animal in a boat. The water was so deep the horse spooked and started to buck, but deputies were eventually able to coax her to higher ground.

After the rescue, Brownie was relocated to a dry pasture near the front of the owner’s property.

The Red River has risen to historic levels in recent weeks, prompting flooding fears and evacuations in both Louisiana and Arkansas.
