HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - A former high school basketball star has admitted she was high when her car crashed on Long Island and seriously injured one of her passengers.

Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/1JrhNsD ) reports that Keira Corbin, of Wyandanch, will be sentenced to three years in prison.

She pleaded guilty Thursday to assault, reckless driving and driving while impaired by drugs and alcohol.

Prosecutors say Corbin was doing 111 mph and using her cellphone when she lost control while exiting the Meadowbrook State Parkway in North Merrick in March 2014.

One of her two passengers suffered a serious scalp injury and a partially severed ear.

Corbin led her Baldwin High School team to victory in the 2011 Long Island Class AA Championship.

Prosecutors say she has apologized to the victims.
