NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans police are looking for the boyfriend of a woman who was shot to death in the bedroom of her home in the Desire area.

Multiple news outlets report investigators believe 25-year-old Kernell Harrell killed 23-year-old Melissa Hunter Wednesday night in the Ninth Ward. Police intend to book Harrell on a count of second-degree murder.

Authorities say Hunter was dead at the scene when police responded to a call of a woman shot around 10:30 p.m.

Court records show Harrell has a history of domestic violence. In September of 2010 he pleaded guilty to battery and violating a protective order. In May of 2014, he acknowledged committing two counts of domestic abuse, one for battery involving strangulation and the other for aggravated assault.
