NEWBURGH, N.Y. (AP) - An upstate New York man is in custody after police say he stole a pickup truck and led officers on a high-speed chase that went through a daycare parking lot.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports (https://bit.ly/1eSZLTb ) 21-year-old Harold Hall was arrested after a five-mile chase that began around 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the city of Newburgh.

Police say it started after a pickup was taken from a landscaping company and was seen speeding away. Officers say Hall ran a red light and hit a ditch before pulling into a driveway of a daycare center where there were several children.

Newburgh Police Chief Mike Clancy says the people in the parking lot were close to being hit.

Hall was arrested at gunpoint on a dead-end street.

It’s unclear if he has an attorney who could comment.
