RIVERTON, Utah (AP) - A deadly plant is spreading throughout Riverton and Herriman.

KSL-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1IpuAeR ) plant experts say to watch out for the seemingly beautiful vine-like plant that has a purple flower and sprouts red berries. The plant called nightshade is one of the most toxic plants in the U.S.

Utah State University Horticulturist Katie Wagner says nightshade, sometimes known as deadly nightshade or bittersweet nightshade, got its name because it grows in shaded areas.

Wagner says the plant could be potentially fatal if it were to be accidentally eaten by kids or animals.

Beverly Ledward says she found nightshade in her garden but left the plant alone because it was pretty. Ledward, after learning about nightshade, says she is going to dig it up and get rid of it.
