MONROE, La. (AP) - Vantage Health Plan will invest at least $17 million to restore and renovate the historic former Virginia Hotel in downtown Monroe to its previous grand state.

Vantage plans to fill the facility, which was most recently the State Office Building, with 400 new employees during the next five years.

Vantage, which along with its subsidiary Affinity Health Group employs about 850 workers, has been the primary private industry driver of downtown Monroe’s revival.

It now owns seven buildings downtown, including the company headquarters Vantage Tower.

The News-Star reports (https://tnsne.ws/1QbIjKh) plans include the restoration of the hotel entry lobby featuring intricate plaster moldings, stone floors and columns, a large skylight and grand staircase, as well as event space on the sixth floor along with a rooftop garden.
