PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A 35-year-old woman has been sentenced to five years of probation after pleading guilty to trying to steal two dogs from a Portland couple’s yard.

The Oregonian reports (https://is.gd/Ra4ceS ) that Jaime Bailey-Latimer did not offer an explanation for her actions while in court Thursday.

Prosecutors say she and another woman crept into the backyard of the couple last August and tried to make off with the couple’s Lhasa apso and Shih Tzu. When the wife came outside, Bailey-Latimer and the other woman tried to make off with the dogs by climbing over the fence.

Prosecutors say a fight followed, and Bailey-Latimer left behind a clump of torn-out hair, a shoe and a purse with her identification inside before escaping. The other woman was never identified.
