CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A 17-year-old former Capital High School student has told a judge his attorneys pressured him into pleading guilty to the rape of a 15-year-old girl inside the Charleston school earlier this year.

The Charleston Gazette (https://bit.ly/1HSnx8P ) reports the boy on Friday asked Kanawha Circuit Judge Jennifer Bailey to allow him to withdraw his March guilty plea to first-degree sexual abuse.

The boy’s new attorney Katherine Dooley says her client experienced ineffective assistance of counsel.

The boy says attorneys Trent Redman and Michael Payne left him feeling like he had no other choice but to accept the deal prosecutors offered or spend more than 20 years in jail.

Prosecutors dropped a more serious charge of second-degree sexual assault after the boy’s plea. He is currently in a juvenile facility.
