CHICAGO (AP) - Veterinarians at a Skokie animal clinic say a dog shot in the head during a domestic dispute in Chicago is doing well in spite of some lingering problems.

Chicago police brought Sophie, a 6-year-old German shepherd mix, to BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Skokie, shortly after she was shot on Wednesday.

Dr. Lauren Nazarian is a veterinarian at the clinic. She told the Chicago Tribune (https://trib.in/1QxIfzB ) on Friday that the wound affected Sophie’s balance but could have been much worse. The dog’s jaw was also injured and she has bullet fragments in her neck and a shoulder.

Nazarian said Sophie is already able to walk and eat.

Though concerns remain about her neurological injuries Nazarian and others at the clinic are optimistic Sophie will have a good quality of life.
