COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The director of South Carolina’s Department of Juvenile Justice is being sworn into the South Carolina State Guard.

The State Guard says Sylvia Murray is being sworn in during a monthly drill on Saturday. The ceremony is taking place at the State Guard’s Olympia Armory in Columbia.

Murray will be with the Civil Affairs Detachment of the State Guard. She currently heads up an agency that oversees about 140 prisoners and another 8,500 juveniles in other disciplinary programs. DJJ has some 1,400 employees.
