SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) - A California man has been awarded $2 million in punitive damages following a plot by a brother and sister to kill him.

A San Bernardino jury decided Friday Leonard Epps should receive $1 million each from Erik Barajas and Stacy Nunez-Barajas.

The siblings were sentenced to probation in 2008 for their roles in the murder-for-hire plot. Federal drug agents say the pair and six others planned to murder bar owner Epps in 2006 after a dispute.

Nunez-Barajas was imprisoned after violating the terms of her probation.

Epps was previously awarded $4.5 million in compensation. His attorney says both defendants are members of an Indian tribe and receive $1 million or more each year in casino proceeds.

An attorney for Nunez-Barajas did not immediately return a request for comment. An attorney for Nunez did not have a public telephone listing.
