ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The husband of an Albuquerque woman charged with kicking her 9-year-old son to death is now accused of participating in the abuse.

KOB-TV in Albuquerque reports (https://bit.ly/1JuJa53) that Stephen Casaus was arraigned Friday on a new charge of intentional child abuse resulting in death.

Casaus was indicted last year on several charges, including six counts of child abuse, stemming from his stepson’s death.

Prosecutors say new evidence indicates that Casaus took part in the violence against Omaree Varela. Before, he was only suspected of failing to stop the abuse or help his injured stepson.

He is being held on a $100,000 bond.

A message left with Casaus’ attorney was not immediately returned Saturday.

Casaus’ wife, Synthia Varela-Casaus, has had her trial postponed so she can undergo a mental competency exam.
