SYRACUSE, Utah (AP) - The city of Syracuse has warned residents that they should boil their water until further notice after a sample tested positive for E. coli and Coliform bacteria.

The Standard Examiner reports (https://bit.ly/1eUGEYV ) that Davis County Health Department Deputy Director Brian Hatch says officials were receiving complaints about discolored water in Syracuse beginning on Tuesday.

He says officials got water samples Wednesday and began testing Thursday.

Hatch says the contamination appears to have been caused by two separate water lines being connected, probably as an accident. He expects crews to fix the problem permanently by the beginning of next week.

For now, residents should boil their water before drinking, brushing teeth or preparing food.

Hatch says anyone showing symptoms of E. coli should contact a physician.
