DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) - Devils Lake officials are now trying to recruit private investors to be able to build a convention center after attempts to publicly finance the facility have failed.

WDAZ-TV reports officials plan to put out a request seeking proposals in the upcoming days.

The city has been trying for well over a year to build a convention center at a former Wal-Mart site.

Fifty-five percent of voters in October rejected a sales tax increase that would have funded the convention center and a wellness facility at Lake Region State College.

Officials had estimated the price of both facilities at $23.5 million.
