DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - A Davenport man who pleaded guilty to neglecting his elderly mother has been sentenced to four years of probation.

The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/1KgOZCd ) that 46-year-old Donald Bohling apologized for his mother’s death at Friday’s sentencing and admitted having a problem with alcohol.

Bohling’s relatively clean record was a factor in his sentence.

Judge Marlita Greve says Bohling will have to complete alcohol treatment and follow strict rules to remain on probation. Any violation of the rules will mean serving up to five years in prison.

Police found 79-year-old Marilyn Bohling dead inside the apartment the two shared on Sept. 25. Police say she weighed 79 pounds and had serious bed sores.
