SAN JOSE, California (AP) - The San Jose Earthquakes held on for a scoreless draw against FC Dallas in Major League Soccer on Sunday after receiving two red cards and playing a man down for most of the second half.

Mark Sherrod was whistled for the first red card in the 53rd minute after attempting to jump over Dallas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, who was on the ground after securing a cross, and making contact with his head. The second red card came after J.J. Koval’s studs-up challenge on Ryan Hollingshead in the 87th minute.

FC Dallas was also reduced to 10 men in the 75th after Je-Vaughn Watson was sent off.

In Sunday’s other match, Colorado drew 0-0 with Real Salt Lake.

Both team had good scoring chances in the closing minutes. Colorado’s Dillon Powers missed a penalty in the 89th minute, and on the final play of the game, Real Salt Lake’s Javier Morales gathered a loose ball near the penalty spot, but his shot was deflected just wide.
