RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A sprint is underway to make final preparations for an international bike race in Richmond in September.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/1AUbhrB) organizers for UCI Road World Championships are rushing to meet the deadline for one of the biggest sporting events the region has hosted.

The competitions, which will bring riders, media, officials and fans from across the globe, are expected to attract about 450,000 spectators over nine days.

The primary focus for organizers right now is completing and announcing a transportation plan, which will include information on street closings, parking and how to get around the area during the races.

Meanwhile, work continues on getting the city’s streets and roads ready. So far more than 20 miles of paving along the race route has been completed.
