HINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - In a story June 6 about a fatal shooting involving a U.S. soldier, The Associated Press reported erroneously that he was from Fort Stewart in Georgia. The soldier was stationed at Fort Polk in Louisiana, not Fort Stewart.

A corrected version of the story is below:

Police: Soldier returns to Ga. home, fatal shooting follows

Police: Soldier returns to Georgia home, male friend found with soldier’s wife fatally shot

HINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Police say a soldier returned home from Texas and fought with a male friend who was fatally shot.

Hinesville Police Lt. Susy Jackson told WJCL-TV (https://bit.ly/1FFCCcl) that the soldier drove back from Texarkana, Texas, following a report of a burglary at his Georgia home.

Jackson said the soldier, who was stationed at Fort Polk in Louisiana, arrived home Saturday and found a male friend with his wife. A fight broke out, and the male friend was shot several times in the stomach and chest.

Authorities said the wounded man was taken to Liberty Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The name of the victim was not immediately released.

It was not immediately clear Saturday whether police have filed charges in the case.
