SANTA MARIA, Calif. (AP) - Santa Maria police fatally shot a man they say is a homicide suspect.

KSBY-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1ItUKNt ) that officers shot the man in a Santa Maria home Friday night while responding to reports of a possible stabbing.

Police say the man told officers he was armed and would shoot anyone who came near the home.

They say they shot the man after unsuccessfully trying to talk him down.

Police say they found a dead woman inside the home.

The two officers involved are on administrative leave while the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office investigates the shooting.

The Santa Maria Police Department is still investigating the homicide.

Sgt. Russ Mengel says the officers tried to stop with the suspect with rubber bullets before shooting.
