MACON, Ga. (AP) - Police are investigating a shooting that left a 55-year-old Macon man in critical condition.

Bibb County sheriff’s officials say William Ford was hospitalized Sunday after the Saturday night gunfire.

Sheriff’s officials tell The Telegraph (https://bit.ly/1cF7UsB) that Ford and a female friend were inside a vehicle parked in front of a house on Highland Avenue around 10:40 p.m. Saturday when a man who had been walking down the street asked for a cigarette.

Authorities say Ford and his friend told the man that they didn’t smoke and the man walked away. They say that at some point, the man returned to the car, exchanged words with Ford and shot him in the neck area.
