SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A black bear was spotted in a tree in a Spartanburg neighborhood.

The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg (https://bit.ly/1F3LY1c ) reports the bear, estimated to be 5 feet tall and weighing between 75 to 80 pounds, reclined on a thick branch in the tree, napped, occasionally changed positions, scratched and yawned Sunday afternoon. Two officials with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources monitored the bear.

The bear eventually climbed down the tree, walked to a backyard and climbed a fence to cross through several backyards, followed by the officers.

SCDNR biologist Tammy Wactor says the bear more than likely followed the scents of pet food, bird feeders and garbage in the residential area.
